Birthday Blog: Thank You!

So I know that my site and blog have changed a lot over 20 years. From fanart, SunDowner and screaming about college in 3 posts a day, to 2 years worth of online quiz results, to talking about nothing but costumes and housework. (Seriously you guys have no idea how many quiz result posts from 2007-2009 I deleted when I ported my blogger posts over.)

My blog and website are mostly just here to amuse myself; I like drawing, I like making costumes, and I like tending to my website and updating my blog. But the icing on the cake is all the lovely people I’ve met over the years because of it. I know some of ya’ll have hung on since the beginning, some of ya’ll came in for the costumes, but for whatever reason you’ve hung around with me over the years, I wanted to say thank you.

I know that I was never the best artist, or the best writer, or the best costume maker/seamstress out there, but I’ve enjoyed it all, and the fact that other people actually like seeing what I do, supporting me in all my silly hobbies… it makes me so happy.

I never really planned out a future for this site. Never thought about it being 20 years in the future and still blogging? I especially never thought I’d have made 200 costumes. I thought that was a “I’ll make a few costumes and be done with it” thing but here we are.

But yeah anyway. This post is to say thank you to everybody, whether you’ve followed me here on my blog or on myspace or on twitter or on facebook or on instagram or where-ever. Thank you for putting up with me for 20 years.

As the last part of my blog’s birthday celebration, I’m officially naming my site Lunatic Dingo again. I always thought just having it titled “kelldar.com” was stupid but when I switched to wordpress I couldn’t figure out how to change it at first, LOL. So I’ve left it for years. But now we’re back to a real name.

And also as a fun little side project I’ve been trying to redo some old art – starting with the redo of my first finished SunDowner art from November 1998:

New version! I didn’t have that background I used in the original so I just kinda tried to give the same feel.

And I think I may have mentioned it in an earlier post but when I was going thru stuff for the art posts, I found a sketch from 2003 where it looks like I was going to do a new version then:

But never finished it, LOL. When I saw it I had to do like, a triple take because I had literally just finished drawing the 2018 version the night before and they looked SO similar. Which is either great that my style for drawing the SunDowner characters finally reached an even ground — or it’s bad because I haven’t progressed very far since 2003. LOL I want to go with option 1 even though I know it’s more of option 2. (Actually I think the 2003 one has a little more character, maybe I just should have finished that one, haha.)

And I thought I’d redo one of Piper, too.
Original from 2001:

I came across this one a few times in the last couple of weeks while doing the birthday blog posts, namely the post where I talked about how much I hated it. I couldn’t really think of a definite Piper piece I wanted to redo, so I thought, heck I’ll just redo this one I always hated.

New:

And I actually got a 3rd one done. I wanted to redo a Harry Potter one so I went with this first one I did of Harry, Ron and Hermione from July 2000.

Back then there wasn’t a movie a yet! So it was fun to redo this using the actors as reference this time.

Thanks again everybody, here’s to another 20 years.

I’ve followed your blog for ages now, probably since back in the early 2000s when I happened upon your cosplay progress as a very new cosplayer! The internet was such a different place back then, and it always makes me happy to see you’re still making beautiful costumes.
